Dr. Dimitris Derpanis is one of the few people who is not asked to choose between military discipline, academic depth and business vision, but on the contrary, he harmoniously combines them into a coherent, continuously evolving path.
Graduating from the Military Academy of the Hellenic Army in 1993, he served the Hellenic Army for almost three decades, attaining the rank of Colonel. As a staff officer of the Defense War Planning Command (DASP), he participated decisively in key military exercises and international NATO conferences, invaluable experiences that have shaped the way he thinks and makes strategic decisions to this day.
At the same time, he built an equally solid academic presence. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Piraeus in Decision Sciences, holding master’s degrees from the Athens University of Economics and Business and the National Technical University of Greece. He dedicated thousands of hours to teaching, notably his contribution to the distance learning undergraduate program in Business Administration at Frederick University, a collaboration that went beyond academic boundaries. The unbreakable bonds of trust forged with Frederick now constitute the core of a shared, great ambition: the establishment of a new university in Greece, a pioneering project which both sides aim to implement in the near future.
Practically and mentally, Dr. Derpanis radically diverges from established norms, as he masterfully combines entrepreneurial genius with social progress and the well-being of the masses. During his career in the private sector, he demonstrated rare negotiating skills, landing international agreements that brought to Greece recognized foreign language certifications from leading global bodies such as OCN London, while leaving his indelible mark as co-founder and CEO of UNICERT.
Today, as Founder and President of D GROUP, he leads a multi-dimensional group with a strong footprint in education, certification, consulting and construction. His most ambitious project is called U RESORT, a plan to radically transform the Vasilitsa National Park and Ski Resort, with the aim of making it an international tourist all year-round destination. This particular project bears a deeply personal mark: Vasilitsa belongs to Grevena, his hometown, therefore its rebirth constitutes for him a supreme act of service.
